Hey all, we have safely arrived in vancouver and loving it. There is so much to say about this city which population wise is not that big but it seems like there is a lot to offer. We have actually been taking notes so we can accurately update the blog, how embarrassing is that. Firstly the toilets, they are half filled with water, coming from a drought ridden country this seems ridiculous, but, im not sure what the reasoning is, just the way it is, maybe someone can fill us in.
There is a serious lack of bottle shops, every corner where you think there may be a BWS a "BLENZ COFFEE" shop takes place, or a nail spa, or 25c peep shows, weird! We know trying to buy a six pack over the counter was a full excersion in it'self. And when we did find one it was about the size of Hugo's bedroom, this is the capital of BC we are talking about.
Weird things are cheap here, GST is 17% but GST is never included in the price, so you go to pay for your goods and at the counter you find things are more expensive than advertised, strange but aparantly if we keep receipts we can claim all this back. Banana's and dried pasta are the same price, and dont think about buying dairy products, expensive as your nana. And they have one cent coins!!! so 1980's.
A regular coffee is the size of John's head, not big i know, but too big for anna's wee tummy. We have started sharing them and getting strange looks from cafe owners.
- here endith the rant
We went For a walk today through the amazing Stanley park, saw some squirrels which was the highlight of John's day. There were plenty of giggles over those little things. If you've seen "over the hedge" they are exactly the same. Vancouver really is a beautiful city and we have enjoyed our time greatly. Tomorrow we spend 17 hours on a bus to Banff - woo hoo.
Its like Vancouver is anti beauracracy getting a bank account and a SIN or TFN/IRD number has been unbeliveably easy, easier than trying to deide which beer to drink.
anyway here are some photo's, the bus is for Hugo! BIG BUSSSSSSSSSSSS!
