On Friday Anna and I traveled 30 minutes down the road to a little place called Lake Louise, you may have heard of it. It is as beautiful as all the photos postcards and getaway shows suggest. We skied and boarded at the Lake Louise Ski Resort which is only 5 minutes away from the Chateau. We caught up with Kristen Spiers at the Temple lodge for a coffee and she took us on a goat track of a run through all sorts of trees and rocks.
We indulged and had a few après ski beers at the lakeview lounge at the Chateau, where you can have a $38 afternoon tea, sounds just delightful! And walked around the ice sculpture exhibit, which attracts artists from around the world, some amazing creations.
On Thursday I tried my hand at skiing. Anna was as patient as a saint with me falling and losing my skis at every opportunity. It was loads of fun and nice for a change from riding a snowboard.
Last night we went to a wine tasting evening at the hotel which is hosted by Cindy in our payroll office. It was really fun although I now realize how highly uncultured I am. I do know however that we sampled a ‘big’ merlot from Washington which contained an aroma of oak, red berries and pepper. Anna could only smell rubber and it just smelt like red wine to me but we played the part by contributing plenty of ‘mmmms’ and ‘oh yeahs’. We also tried 5 other varieties which I will not attempt to spell as I cannot even say them. Matching a variety of cheeses, olives and crackers and their flavors to each wine was really fun too.
We had the coldest day yet on Monday the 28th of Jan, it was minus 36 degrees at its coldest and the gondola stopped, stranding those who live up here on the mountain. I have never felt any thing so cold in my life, and hope never to again.
Enjoy the photos, they were taken on our day trip to Lake Louise. It was a cloudy day but still very impressive.
