Anna and I are like a couple of kids before Christmas at the moment. Without wishing to bore you with talk about the weather; after some serious snowing the skies have been big, bright and blue over the past few days and we have skied till our legs will no longer let us. We are not required to host guests until the 27th which means our goggle tans are coming along nicely, we are now a couple of kiwis disguised as racoons.
We also went for a 5 hour snow shoe up to an Alpine Village, the visibility was horrendous as about 30cms of snow fell that day but the walk was very rewarding, and a little knackering. There was no wind and all sound was softened by the falling snow making for a pretty special experience. A cup of vin chaud (hot wine) warmed us up before a well earned descent.
Aside from these outdoor winter activities all is fairly normal. Our flatmate, Rob, moved in the other day. He is your stereotypical Chamonix hard-out and super nice. Today he went skiing into Switzerland via some notoriously dangerous back country, a little cavalier for Anna and I just yet.
Our little village is really starting to look more and more like a ski village, Christmas lights and tourists line the streets and ‘Après ski specials’ are on every sandwich board.
Joyeux Noel to you all
